From custom silk art to limited editions - Carol Gardyne

Carol Gardyne Art Trip in France Fall 2008
Information and Registration Agreement

After nearly a decade of art trips to France, the Fall 2008 adventure promises to be a new experience with several new features. The essence remains art and design for a small group in the gorgeous surroundings of a home in the Morvan Parc area of Burgundy. Mornings of painting silk in the airy studio will be followed by afternoons of culture and vistas. An environment of tranquility and a small group (four people) will make this a fresh experience for participants. Visits and guided tours will include historic and beautiful cathedrals, museums, architectural treasures and the natural features of the Morvan Natural Park region and the Cote D’Or, the world’s leading wine region. From open-air markets to some of France’s most sophisticated boutiques and from generations-old family bistros to “in house” dining, there will also be opportunities to know and visit with the French themselves.

Two sessions are planned
(closed when reservations fill each session):
• September 11th – September 21st
• September 22nd – October 2nd

The cost and benefits of the tour:
• Transportation in microbus (minivan) to and from Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris, France
• 10 nights in the Gardyne’s home
• All meals
• Entrance fees to museums and historic sights
• The cost of all guided tours
• All painting materials needed (silk, stretcher frames, all dyes, brushes, etc.)
• Handouts prepared for sites and villages to be visited
• All travel in an air-conditioned microbus

The total payment of $3,500 includes the features above, but does not include airfare to and from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France; alcoholic beverages; insurance costs, including health, accident, personal trip-cancellation and baggage (these insurance coverages are required for participation, but are to be chosen and arranged for by each individual participant); transportation of excess baggage; and all items not specifically mentioned as included.

Reservation and payment for the trip:
Over past years, the value of the dollar has dramatically decreased against the euro, the currency in which Carol must pay most expenses. Nonetheless, you continue to have the opportunity to pay for the 2008 trip in dollars and in three payments. Reservations are accepted in order of receipt if accompanied by a completed reservation form and a deposit of $1,000 per person. Please make checks payable to Carol Gardyne Art Trip, Inc. The second payment of $1,500 is due April 20, 2008, and the final payment of $1,000 is due May 20, 2008. The tour cost is based on conversion rates in effect as of August 2007. In order to keep the rates as low as possible, no allowances are built in to cover conversion rate increases. Since currencies fluctuate constantly around the world, it may be necessary, before departure, to adjust the cost of the tour if significant increases occur. Though such adjustments have not been made in the past, if adjustments are necessary, you will be notified by July 30, 2008.

If you reserve but must cancel:
Should you find it necessary to cancel at any time, you should notify Carol Gardyne in writing as soon as you know. Refunds, less a cancellation fee of $500 per person, will be made if Carol is notified in writing on or before May 1, 2008. There are no refunds for all or any unused portions of the program after May 1, 2008.

The spirit and expectations for each and all during the trip:
Over the history of Carol’s trips, there have been many participants back for a second time, and comments of thanks and appreciation have been gratifying in their frequency and sincerity. The gracious setting and group activities are central to the relaxed and creative atmosphere. A spirit of participation and camaraderie is important in each group, as well as understanding of the focus and activities of the trip. The willingness by each participant to respect the schedule, activities and direction of the group by Carol contributes to its successful completion. To aid in understanding, orientation sessions and written materials precede the trip. Activities, times and schedules are discussed each day at breakfast and each evening for the next day. Each participant is expected to know and observe these. Health and fitness are also considerations: walking is required during tours of the various sites. Each prospective participant should consider these, and registration means understanding and agreeing to contribute to the group by being willing and able to participate. Finally, all should recognize that they are in a different country and culture, whose laws, customs and manners should be respected and observed fully.

Pre-trip information and communication:
Pre-trip orientation sessions and reading will be shared in Summer 2008. A wonderful part of each year’s experience has been for participants to meet and get to know one another before arriving in France. All efforts will be made to introduce participants and share background on activities, culture and the setting of our trip. Questions to Carol are always encouraged.
